calculate_qaly([positional or keyword] utility_values: np.ndarray | list[float] = None, [positional or keyword] time_years: np.ndarray | list[float] = None, [positional or keyword] discount_rate: float = 0.03) -> float

Calculate Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) over time.

QALY = Σ(utility_value * time_period * discount_factor)

Args: utility_values: Health utility values (0 = death, 1 = perfect health) time_years: Time periods in years discount_rate: Annual discount rate (default 0.03 = 3%)

float: Total discounted QALYs

Example: >>> utilities = [0.8, 0.7, 0.6] # Utility values for 3 years >>> time_periods = [1, 1, 1] # 1 year each >>> qaly = calculate_qaly(utilities, time_periods, 0.03) >>> print(f“Total QALYs: {qaly:.2f}”)

Parameters:

  • utility_values np.ndarray | list[float]
  • time_years np.ndarray | list[float]
  • discount_rate float (default: 0.03)

Returns: float
